Man and Woman Feeling Happy and Confident after Completing the Kalos Medical Spa Hair Restoration Plan

August is National Hair Loss Awareness Month! To celebrate, we are examining the four main causes of hair loss, plus revealing how our new customized hair restoration plan can help you reverse hair loss & regain your confidence.

The four main causes of hair loss

Approximately 35 million men and 21 million women experience hair loss in the U.S. Roughly 60% of men experience male pattern balding, the most common form of hair loss, by the time they reach their 40s and 50s. But while more men suffer from hair loss than women, more women (~80%) experience noticeable hair loss by age 60.

About 80% of women experience noticeable hair loss by age 60.

Hair loss can be brought on by a number of issues, but usually results from a combination of factors, including your genetics, hormone levels, stress, and age.

1. Genetics

Unfortunately, some people are genetically predisposed to hair loss, a condition called androgenic alopecia, or male/female pattern baldness. While the majority of people with male pattern baldness tend to have family members with the same type of hair loss, there is not just one gene responsible for male and female pattern baldness, making it difficult to predict.

2. Hormone levels

A sex hormone called dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is one of the key drivers of hair loss in both men and women. DHT is a byproduct of testosterone, which is converted in the body by an enzyme called 5-AR. While ~10% of DHT is normal in both men and women, any more than that can shorten your hair growth cycle and shrink your follicles, resulting in hair loss. Though it used to be commonly accepted that higher levels of testosterone were associated with greater hair loss, medical professionals now agree that it is the sensitivity of your hair follicles to DHT that influences hair loss.

3. Stress

Stress can cause hair loss by temporarily halting new hair growth, a condition called telogen effluvium. Stress can also damage the quality of existing hair, causing it to fall out more easily when washing or brushing it. Everyday stressors may cause gradual hair loss, or a sudden shock from a traumatic life event may cause fistfuls of hair to fall out at once. Regardless of its cause, stress is one of the main reasons men and women suffer from premature hair loss. The good news is that this kind of hair loss can be reversed when you lower your stress levels.

4. Aging

Like it or not, hair loss is one of the first (and most noticeable) signs of aging. Most of us lose 50 to 100 hairs a day, but our bodies normally replace them as quickly as they fall out. But, when we reach a certain age (30s to 40s for men and 50s to 60s for women), our hair loss outpaces our hair growth, resulting in visible hair loss.

Most of us lose 50 to 100 hairs a day, but our bodies normally replace them as quickly as they fall out.

The Kalos Hair Plan difference

While many hair loss clinics promote a single treatment as the solution for hair restoration, we take a more integrated approach. Our Kalos Hair Plan includes a combination of HydraFacial™ Keravive treatments, platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, Votesse vitamins, and finasteride (for men only). After years of experimenting with various treatments, we believe this approach delivers the best results in the shortest amount of time without surgery. Here are just some of the benefits to hair restoration using our Kalos Hair Plan:

  • No surgery, transplants, or downtime required.
  • Plan may be customized based on the extent of your hair loss.
  • Treatments may be repeated as often as desired for optimal results.
  • Treatments are non-invasive and well-tolerated.

What is Keravive by HydraFacial?

HydraFacial Keravive is an easy, three-step treatment performed in our medical spa office with a take-home component:

  1. Cleanse & exfoliate. HydraFacial’s Vortex Technology is used to extract dirt, oil, and other impurities from your scalp and hair follicles.
  2. Hydrate & nourish. HydraFacial’s proprietary Keravive Peptide Complex Solution is applied to further exfoliate your scalp and nourish your hair follicles. This solution contains growth factors and skin proteins that help your scalp stay hydrated and your hair looking healthier and fuller.
  3. Extend & enhance. Use HydraFacial’s Keravive Peptide Complex Spray to enhance your treatment and extend your results.

What is platelet-rich plasma therapy?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy stimulates new hair growth and strengthens & thickens existing hairs using growth factors found naturally in your body. Here is how it works: our hair restoration professional will draw your blood, isolate its plasma in a centrifuge, then strategically inject it into certain areas of your scalp. Our Kalos Hair Restoration Plan involves one PRP treatment per month for three months, followed by a booster treatment at six months, for a total of four treatments.
